North American Wind Growth Helps Drive Strong 2016 For EGP

Enel Green Power (EGP), Enel’s global renewable energy division, is touting 2016 as a record-breaking year: The company built an all-time high of 2,018 MW of renewable energy capacity, representing more than twice as much as that of 2015, when it built just over 900 MW.

According to the company, its North American growth played a key role in driving the global increase. In total, Enel Green Power North America Inc. (EGP-NA) completed 573 MW of capacity, including the first half of the 400 MW Cimarron Bend wind farm, located in Clark County, Kansas. The first 200 MW of the project, Enel’s largest ever wind farm, came online late last year.

In addition, in Mexico, the 129 MW Palo Alto and 100 MW Vientos del Altiplano wind farms entered into service last year.

According to the company, EGP’s global renewables capacity that entered into service in 2016 represents the reduction of 4.1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.

For its North American division, EGP-NA is currently present in 23 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces and has more than 2.8 GW of managed capacity, of which over 2.4 GW comes from wind.

“This record confirms once again the incredible efforts made by the entire Enel Green Power team,” comments Francesco Venturini, head of Enel’s global renewable energy division. “It’s a team result that makes us extremely proud. The credit goes to everyone who worked selflessly and steadfastly to attain this success.”
